What is Happening in FIRST GRADE?

Social Studies

We are learning about our community and where we live. Our overall question is “What makes our location special?” We are looking for small cardboard boxes and containers to help us build 3D communities. Please send these items in with your child, if you have them at home. If you would like to help students build, click here to sign up.

Firefighter Visit

Our local South Metro Fire Rescue department will come to school on Wednesday, September 23rd with their very cool fire truck.  We will learn about fire safety,  parts of a fire engine, and the tools firefighters use for their job.

Writing

This week we focused on opinion writing and what the difference between a fact and an opinion. We tasted 4 different kinds of apples and we thought about what they tasted like, if they were sweet or sour, yummy or yucky. We we voted on our favorite and made a class bar graph! Lastly we wrote a letter to you! The letters are in the Friday Folders on the homework side. Please bring in the requested apple by September 24th.

WIN Time

We have started WIN, “What I Need”, time. Which is an opportunity for students to work on skills they need to grow as readers. Students work in different First Grade classrooms based on math and literacy needs. They will work with Mrs. Dattilo, Mrs. Palumbo, Mrs. Moore, Mrs. Triplett and or Ms. Ruth.

Music Informance

Please check in at the office and head to the Music room if you wish to watch/be apart of the music informance. This is during specials time (12:50-1:35) with Ms. Schlatter.

October 9-Mrs. Moore

October 23- Mrs. Palumbo

October 30- Mrs. Dattilo

ST Math
Did you know your child has access to ST Math, a fun and engaging online math program that promotes critical thinking and problem-solving skills? Students can log in through their my.cherrycreekschools.org account.
We encourage students to complete 30 minutes of ST Math each week. Although we provide time at school, students who practice at home often show stronger progress and confidence in math. To watch ST Math in action, click this link.
Thank you for encouraging your child to continue learning beyond the classroom!
